Paediatric Medication Doses

Safety Notice 1-07

November 2007

In the interest of patient safety the Medical AdvisorGroup and the Chair of the Clinical Care Committee has recommended to Council that;

All medication doses for patients’ ≤ 13 years shall be calculated on a weight basis (unless an age related dose is specified for that medication). The dose for these patients shall never exceed the adult dose.

All pre-hospital emergency care providers and Advanced Paramedics shall accept this notice as an interim safety notice until Council makes a formal decision on the matter.
