Cardiac First Response DVD and Manual

PHECC has commissioned a DVD for CFR training. It is a collaborative project with the National Ambulance Service College, Dublin Fire Brigade, Irish Heart Foundation, Order of Malta Ambulance Corps, Irish Red Cross, St. John Ambulance Brigade and the Irish Water Safety Association. The DVD is being produced by Wiremesh under the clinical direction of PHECC. An actor was engaged to enact some of the clinical scenes to ensure realism. Each of the participating organisations assigned a member to develop the story board and perform the skills demonstrations.

The DVD is menu driven which enables the CFR Instructor to choose what section to teach at any one time.

The three primary menus are the Introduction, Responder and Practitioner.

The introduction consists of a message from Mr. Mark Doyle, Chair of the Medical Advisory Group, a survivor’s story by Fergus McCarron (T&D Officer HSE North West), an account of two saves using an AED by a young student, the chain of survival, an enactment of the response to a cardiac arrest and a message about unrealistic expectations following cardiac arrest.

The Responder and Practitioner sections consist of demonstrations of initial patient assessment, CPR and FBAO for adult, infant and child. It also contains demonstration on recovery position, AED use and barrier devices for adults.

The DVD is in its final phase of production with a manual for the CFR student in final draft. Supplies of the CFR manual will be available to Recognised Institutions once printing arrangements have being finalised.
