Practitioner Re-Registration (Draft Policy for approval by Council)

If you are currently in your third year of PHECC registration you will receive an invitation to re-register. This invitation will be sent by post approximately 8 weeks before your licence expiry date. Re-registration is for a further 3 years and your licence will be issued on an annual basis during this 3-year period.

Draft Re-Registration Process

Eight weeks prior to licence expiry, notification is sent out to each registrant due for three-yearly renewal. The administrative deadline for processing applications is two weeks prior to licence expiry date. A list of registrants due for renewal is also sent to relevant employers.

Two weeks prior to licence expiry (deadline set in 1 above), a letter is sent to those who have not yet re-registered informing them that they have until the last day of their licence expiry to complete the re-registration process. Re-registration at this point will incur a late registration fee of €20 in addition to the established €30 registration fee which is also due. Relevant employers are also informed of the outstanding registrants.

On the final day of the registrant’s current licence those who have failed to re-register will be informed in writing that their membership on the PHECC Register has lapsed and that they are NO longer authorised to implement PHECC CPGs and are NOT authorised to administer medications as per SI 510 of 2005 or SI 512 of 2008. In order to reinstate their status on the PHECC register they must either:

  • Restoration Period - successfully re-register within the Restoration Period (3 months from licence expiry date – fee €150 – this includes the established registration fee of €30). During the restoration period practitioners are NOT registered and their practice is limited until they successfully re-register.
  • Post-restoration period either:
  1. successfully undergo an NQEMT exam at the relevant level; OR
  2. successfully undergo PHECC’s Recognition of equivalence of qualifications - fee €230 – this includes the established registration fee of €30.

Do I have to re-register?

Re-registration, within the 8-week timeframe, will ensure that your status on the PHECC Register is maintained. (Continued in next column...)
  (Continued from previous column...)
Allowing your currency on the Register to lapse may have serious practice/professional consequences as your status will be limited to Emergency First Responder (EFR) level.

What is the Restoration Period

This is a period of time (3 months from licence expiry date) during which former registered practitioners may apply to re-register by paying a late registration administration fee of €150. Applicants will be re-admitted to the register without having to undergo any additional examinations or assessments. Applicants must show just cause for their re-admittance onto the register.

May I practice as normal during the Restoration Period?

NO. During the restoration period practitioners are NOT registered and their practice is limited until they successfully re-register.

What happens if I don’t re-register?

If your re-registration is not completed within the 8-week timeframe you must re-apply to join the register. Re-application for those trained pre-1995/2007 will include having to either sit (and be successful in) the NQEMT examination or having to successfully fulfill PHECC’s Recognition of Equivalence requirements (cost €230).

How do I re-register?

Complete the re-registration application form by signing both sides of it and returning it with the registration fee of €30 within the 8-week timeframe using the SAE provided. We will then send you your new licence and card.

Incomplete applications

Please ensure that both sides of the form are signed as applications cannot be processed unless fully completed. Incomplete applications will be returned and result in delayed re-registration.
