The public must know that registered pre-hospital emergency care practitioners are competent.

PHECC will be commencing a consultative programme on Competence Assurance during the coming year in conjunction with the development of the PHECC Register. The programme will focus on continuing professional development for registered pre-hospital emergency care practitioners.

What we hope to achieve is a system to ensure patients that they will have safe and competent practitioners. PHECC will be engaging with all interested parties especially PHECC Register members to foster and accept a new culture of openness, accountability, and proactivity, where competence is not automatically accepted over fault, and where PHECC can intervene to promote competence with their support.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an essential tool that will assist in developing and maintaining competency. The consultation exercise will focus on developing such a tool. Other related items such as access to professional development through structured education and training programmes will also be explored.
