Applying for registration with PHECC for individuals who do not have the National Qualification in Emergency Medical Technology (NQEMT).

Pre-hospital emergency care training in Ireland that was obtained from institutions other than PHECC recognised institutions or prior to PHECC recognition, must fulfil the learning competencies of  the EMT or the Paramedic courses outlined in the 2007 Education and Training Standards.

The first step for applicants is to complete and return the application form, irrespective of nationality. Click the following links to download or view the application form for assessment of equivalence and guidelines.

The current fee is €230 and covers all application costs including assessment and registration for 3 years.

The adequacy of an applicant’s professional education and training, including duration and content, is evaluated and compared to the appropriate 2007 Education and Training Standard; Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic.

After consideration, one of the following outcomes is possible:
(i) Qualifications accepted and subject to completion of additional training, access to the relevant NQEMT examination is permitted.
(ii) The applicant is advised to contact a Recognised Institution where Institution's policy of recognition of prior learning will apply.
(iii) Application rejected.

When an individual successfully completes the appropriate NQEMT exam (EMT or Paramedic), the applicant is awarded the NQEMT and is then eligible to apply for registration at the appropriate division on the PHECC Register.
